Water Mitigation and Water Damage Restoration in Milwaukee

Water damage gets worse every hour it sits. Water soaks into carpet, drywall, and wood floors. It moves under walls and into spaces you cannot see. The faster it is removed and dried, the less there is to repair.

Need water mitigation? Milwaukee homes and businesses can call SteamDry Restore 24/7/365 at (414) 479-9999. We remove the water, dry the structure, and document every step. We are a family-owned IICRC Certified Firm. We have served Milwaukee, Waukesha, and Southeast Wisconsin since 1994.

What Water Mitigation Means

Water mitigation is the work that stops water damage from spreading. It includes removing standing water, finding hidden moisture, and drying the building. This is the first and most important part of any water damage job. It decides how much of your home or business will need to be repaired.

SteamDry Restore focuses on mitigation and drying. We are cleanup and drying specialists, not a rebuild contractor. When our work is done, the structure is dry and you have a full set of photos and records. If repairs are needed, those records show your contractor and your insurance company what happened.

Water Damage We Handle

Water damage can come from many places. We clean up and dry after:

  • Burst pipes and pipe breaks
  • Flooded basements
  • Sump pump failures
  • Sewage and sewer backups
  • Washing machine and dishwasher overflows
  • Toilet overflows
  • Water heater leaks
  • Refrigerator water line leaks
  • Roof leaks and ice dams
  • Apartment building water losses that affect more than one unit

Structural Drying with the Vortex System

Structural drying means drying the building itself, not just the surface. That includes drywall, wall cavities, insulation, subfloors, and framing. It also includes carpet and pad when they can be saved.

SteamDry Restore uses a drying method we call the Vortex System. It is a standard, documented process. It is designed to dry the structure in the least invasive way. It has four main parts:

  • Controlled airflow. Commercial air movers are placed and adjusted to move air where drying is needed.
  • Dehumidification. Commercial dehumidifiers pull moisture out of the air so materials can dry.
  • Inner wall drying. Insulated walls often hold water inside. When needed, we remove the baseboard and drill small vent holes along the bottom of the wall. This lets us dry the inside of the wall.
  • Monitoring. We check moisture levels during the job and change the setup as materials dry.

Why the First 72 Hours Matter

Time is the biggest factor in how much can be saved. In many clean-water losses caught within about 72 hours, we can dry drywall, carpet, and other materials in place. That means less tear-out, less repair work, and lower costs.

After 72 hours, wet materials are harder to save and more likely to need removal. That is why it pays to call as soon as you find water.

When Materials Have to Be Removed

Our goal is to use the least invasive approach that still dries the space completely. Some materials cannot be dried in place. Selective removal of drywall, insulation, or carpet pad is usually needed when:

  • The damage is severe or widespread
  • The water is contaminated, such as a sewage backup
  • Materials stayed wet longer than the 72-hour window
  • Drywall or insulation cannot be dried correctly in place

Water Damage Questions

How long does drying take? Most jobs take several days. The time depends on how much water there was, what materials got wet, and how long they stayed wet. We take moisture readings during the job and remove the equipment once the materials are dry.

Do you always have to remove drywall? No. It depends on the type of water, the materials, and how long they have been wet. In many clean-water losses, our Vortex System dries walls in place with little or no tear-out. In others, some drywall must come out so the space dries correctly.

Do you do repairs after the drying is done? No. We are cleanup and drying specialists, not a rebuild contractor. We remove the water, dry the structure, and document the job. Our records give your repair contractor and insurance company a clear picture of the damage.

Will insurance pay for water damage restoration? It depends on your policy and the cause. Sudden and accidental losses, such as a burst pipe or a failed supply line, may be covered. Slow leaks and outside floodwater may not be. Check your policy and talk to your agent. We provide photos, equipment logs, and drying records to support your claim.

How fast can you get here? We dispatch 24/7/365. Depending on your location and current call volume, we typically arrive within 60 to 90 minutes.
