Basement Water Removal That Goes Past the Puddle

Pumping out standing water is the first step, not the whole job. In a basement, water soaks into carpet pad, wicks up drywall, runs under laminate and vinyl plank, and settles behind baseboards. If that moisture stays, you get warped flooring, musty odors and mold. Our technicians extract the water, measure every wall and floor surface, and set commercial air movers and dehumidifiers. We come back to check readings and adjust equipment until your basement is actually dry, not just dry to the touch.

Common Causes of a Flooded Basement

  • Sump pump failure during heavy rain or a power outage
  • Floor drain backup when the sewer or storm system is overwhelmed
  • Foundation seepage and groundwater after storms or snowmelt
  • Water heater leaks and tank failures
  • Washing machine hose and overflow leaks
  • Burst or frozen pipes in basement walls and ceilings

Clean Water or Sewage? It Changes the Cleanup

Water from a supply line or water heater is usually clean, and many materials can be dried and saved if we start quickly. Water from a floor drain, sewer line or toilet is Category 3 contaminated water. Porous materials it touches, like carpet pad and the bottom of drywall, usually have to be removed, and the area must be cleaned and sanitized before drying. If you see or smell sewage, stay out of the water and keep kids and pets away. Learn more about sewage backup cleanup.

Finished Basements: Dry It, Don’t Tear It Out

Many Milwaukee-area basements are finished living space with carpet, drywall and built-ins. Some companies cut out the bottom of every wet wall by default. In many clean-water losses caught early, our Vortex Structural Drying System dries wall cavities in place by removing baseboards and venting the base of the wall. Less demolition means less rebuild cost and less time living with a torn-up basement. When a material cannot be dried safely, we explain why before we remove it.

Can My Basement Carpet Be Saved?

Often, yes, if the water is clean and we get there fast. Carpet cleaning has been part of our business since 1994, so we know which carpet can be extracted, dried and cleaned in place and which cannot. Pad soaked by sewage or water that sat for days usually has to go. We will tell you honestly on site.

Flooded Basement FAQ

How fast can you get here?

We dispatch 24/7 and typically arrive within 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your location, weather and call volume.

Do you pump out the water or just dry it?

Both. We remove standing water with extraction equipment, then dry the floors, walls and framing with commercial air movers and dehumidifiers.

How long does it take to dry a basement?

Most clean-water basements take a few days. Time depends on how much water, how long it sat, and what materials got wet. We check moisture readings during the dry so equipment does not stay longer than needed.

Will I have to tear out drywall?

Not always. In many clean-water losses we can dry walls in place. Sewage, long-standing water or damaged material may require removal of the lower portion of the wall.
